Pava to meet on Seag venue By Fernelle C. Rodriguez
PHILIPPINE Amateur Volleyball Association president Roger Banzuela will meet with the PAVA executives and the FIVB committee to ascertain the venue of the beach volleyball and indoor volleyball events of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games.
The meeting is set on Nov. 13.
The City of Bacolod will serve as one of the satellite venues for the biennial meet, which will cater to 11 Asian nations.
Banzuela told Sun.Star Bacolod he is set to meet with his committee and clear out things with regard to the venue of the games.
He said he was not aware of the change in the venue for the two games, thinking the University of St. La Salle Coliseum and beach volley courts were tapped and inspected by the FIVB committee to serve as venues of the games.
"The chairman of the Asian beach volleyball committee Tony Boy Liao has called my office and asked me why there was a change in the venue," Banzuela noted.
Banzuela added he has read a report that the target venue for the indoor volleyball will be the Bacolod Arts Center and the beach volleyball will be placed at the Reclamation area.
"We were not informed over the matter when we were supposed to be the persons to contact with because it is our committee who handles such games," he stressed.
He said that with the USLS beach volley court, they only need to have 20 trucks of white sand to be filled in the courts.
He further said they have shower rooms and comfort rooms which are both convenient for the players.
"What we lack now are the warm up court, but the set up is much better than the Reclamation Area site," he noted.
It would be very inconvenient at the Reclamation Area, he said, because of the heat given that the beach volley committee disclosed venue should be situated in an area where there are trees.
Banzuela added if there should be two dressing rooms, two showers rooms for the men's and women's teams as well a secretariat office and medical room, these will add up to the expenses of the organizing committee.
As to the indoor volleyball venue, the requirement is that it should be air-conditioned and has a wooden flooring.
Banzuela approximates that the SEAG organizing committee will spend much more if the BAC will be used because a big portion of it needs renovation unlike the La Salle Coliseum which only needs the air-conditioning units and the wooden flooring.
"However, it is the committee who will decide on the venue," he said. Banzuela is the sports director of USLS.
