2 prisoners flee from Sagay jail By Claudine C. Dumalag
TWO prisoners of Sagay City police station escaped at 8:20 p.m. last Thursday by destroying the jail's already damaged grills.
Supt. Norberto Boston, police city chief, identified the escapees as Arnold Ortega, 16, charged with qualified theft, and Judy Banay, 36, charged with murder, both of Barangay Lopez Jaena, Sagay.
Boston revealed that jail guard on duty Celso Pasaylo reported the escape was timed while he was having dinner.
Police arrested Ortega after more than 30 minutes of manhunt operations at the house of his employer, Tony Agellarde, in Barangay Poblacion, Sagay.
Acting police provincial director Supt. Mark Edison Belarma ordered Chief Insp. Leo Erwin Agpangan, head of the Intelligence and Investigation Branch of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, to conduct a probe and assist the Sagay City police in tracking down the other prisoner, Banay.
Belarma did not give operatives any timeframe within which to rearrest Banay.
He also did not disclose whether or not sanctions will be slapped against Pasaylo and Boston.
Boston, on the other hand, said the escape was the second to have happened this year.
The first took place last August.
The escapee was identified as Michael Solan, 23, of Hacienda San Agustin, Barangay Paraiso, Sagay.
Solan, charged with frustrated murder, remained at large until this time.
He escaped by destroying the framework of the ceiling using a piece of wood and a rope.
