St. Joseph beats St. La Salle University
By Fernelle C. Rodriguez

FOLLOWING the loss of their boy counterparts, the St. Joseph's High School volleybelles overcame their opponents' home court advantage, beating the University of St. La Salle (USLS) girls squad Tuesday afternoon at the USLS College covered court.

The St. Joseph volleybelles won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14.

The teams were supposed to compete last Saturday, but both groups agreed to reset their games due to conflict of schedules.

It was the first victory for the St. Jo spikers since the opening of the Negros Occidental Private School Sports Cultural Educational Association aspirant boys' and girls' volleyball matches.

Meanwhile, the Baby Stingers tasted their second loss, after they succumbed to defending champion St. Scholastica's Academy last Sunday.

The St. Scho girls were on the lead in Bracket A with a 2-0 win-loss record, also booking a win against La Consolacion College-Main last Saturday, 25-9, 25-18.

In Bracket B, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) Talisay set a 2-1 win-loss record, while last year's first runner-up St. John's Institute secured 2-0 win-loss slot.

The UNO-R Talisay spikers lost to the 2003 second runner-up St. Benilde College Saturday morning, 19-25, 25-19, 26-24. But the team refocused and won in their succeeding games, beating St. Theresita's Academy in the afternoon, 25-9, 25-13; and St. Rose of Lima School the next day, 25-8, 25-7.

The St. John's spikers also dominated over St. Rose on Saturday, 25-8, 25-13; and St. Theresita the next day, 25-13, 25-13.

In the boys aspirants level, SJHS and USLS were on the lead after posting 2-0 win-loss records over the weekend.

Tournament manager is Efren Timtiman.
