Synod highlights feast

THE result of the Second Diocesan Synod will highlight the Feast of Saint Sebastian today.

About 114 resolutions were passed three months after the Second Diocesan Synod commenced last October 4.

The feast will start with a concelebrated Mass and a procession to be held at 5:30 p.m.

After which there will be a 15-minute fireworks display at the public plaza and a program prepared by the Bacolod Tourism Office.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Monsignor Vicente Rivas will be delivering messages to the people during the program.

After that, there will be an Original Pilipino Music presentation by the Grupo Amorseco and an Ilonggo play to be presented by the La Carlota City College Cultural Group.

Those who joined the legislation are the priests from the different parishes of the Diocese of Bacolod.

The synod was inspired by the Vatican Council, which was held 30 years ago as the Philippine church found a necessity to examine "herself" regarding actions towards renewal.

Among the priorities for the synod include integral faith formation, empowerment of the laity toward social transformation, active presence and participation of the poor in the church, the family as the focal point of evangelization, building and strengthening of participatory communities that make up the parish as community of communities, integral renewal of the clergy, journey with the youth, ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue and animation and formation for mission "ad gentes".(AZA)
