7 teams secure wins in opener
By Fernelle C. Rodriguez

SEVEN teams triumphed over their respective opponents in the opening salvo of the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association-Negros Occidental Cultural and Sports Foundation Age-Group Volleyball Competition.

The event is under the supervision of NOVA. Philippine Volleyball Federation president Roger Banzuela saw 14 squads banging against each other last Saturday at the University of St. La Salle college covered court.

Defending champion in the 14-under boy's division from the University of St. La Salle--Integrated School gave a smashing hit against the spikers from E.B. Magalona and won in a straight set, 25-9, 25-11.

The 12-Under boys team from the same school, however, were not as lucky as they lost to the spikers from Pulupandan. The USLS 12-U spikers were crushed in a straight set, 14-25, 9-25.

The USLS 12-Under girls team also lost to the Bacolod City volleybelles in Bracket B, 11-25, 11-25.

In the same bracket, the spikers from La Carlota City triumphed over their rivals from the Mansilingan Christian Academy in a straight set, 25-16, 25-6.

In the 16-Under girls division, last year's third runner-up E.B. Magalona spikers trounced the volleybelles from the Bacolod Tay Tung High School in Bracket B, 25-19, 25-16 while the spikers from St. Benilde School defeated the team from Mansilingan Christian Academy, 25-8, 25-11.

In the 16-Under boy's division, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (Talisay City) won over their counterparts from La Carlota in Bracket B, 26-24, 8-25, 26-24.

Competitions are held every weekend.
