El Niño to benefit resort owners

THE mild effect of the dry season, El Niño, will benefit the resort industry, said John Lizares, president of Palmas Del Mar Conference Resort Hotel at Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City.

During the blessing of their hotel's new eight-room two-storey Poolside suite last Sunday, Lizares said the resort industry usually gets a major boost whenever there is a mild dry spell.

He said it is during summer, the time when the El Niño hits, that people frequent resorts.

Lizares said the expansion of their hotel rooms was their answer to the increasing demand of room accommodations.

Hen said before, they can accommodate only 75 live-in guests but with the additional rooms, 100 live-in guests may now stay overnight.

In 2000, he said, they added seven rooms, three Villa Cabanas in 2002, four cabanas in 2003, and pool suites in 2004.

"We hope to improve every year the quality of service that we are offering to the people of Bacolod City and of Negros Occidental," he added.

Lizares said they have a good number of foreign investors in the resorts.

He said the resort's peak season is during Holy Week, summer season and during December holidays.

"The influx of visitors is increasing every year," he said.

Moreover, Lizares said the expansion of hotel rooms and their upgraded amenities is in preparation for the city's hosting of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in November this year.

"Part of preparation, we have added our housekeeping supervisors, improve our landscape and other facilities," he said.

The new two-storey Poolside suite has four rooms in the ground floor with one bedroom each, a receiving area, a sofa bed, pull out bed, television, dining table and a terrace with a view of the swimming pool. (CMH)
