K9 dogs, police deployed for Holy Week

SENIOR Superintendent Charles Calima Jr., acting director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said Monday K-9 police units will be deployed to all ports and bus terminals in the province during the forthcoming Holy Week celebration.

Calima said Negrenses can be assured of their safety during the season of Lent especially when they converge in public places.

He added that teams of K-9 police operatives will help detect bombs, other explosives and illegal drugs that may be placed in densely-populated areas like churches and public plazas during the occasion.

Calima also directed all units of the provincial police to heighten their intelligence monitoring operations to foil any rebel attacks, particularly from the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army.

Operatives, said Calima, are likewise doubling their security efforts for the forthcoming anniversary celebration of the NPA on March 26.

All police chiefs and group directors were directed by Calima to continue implementing the three-tiered defense system and other anti-terrorism security measures.

The three-tiered defense system includes the intensified intelligence monitoring, undertaking of information sharing, and the exchange of vital information with the Armed Forces to thwart any possible hostile act by rebels.

All bus terminals, churches, beaches, malls, sea and airports in the province will be secured to pre-empt any possible untoward incident, said Calima.

He added that all police units were directed to continue their police visibility patrol operations especially during the wee hours. (CCD)
