Third most wanted man in La Carlota collared
By Claudine C. Dumalag

THE third most wanted person in La Carlota City, tagged in the slaying of a tricycle driver in January this year, was apprehended in Aklan province Sunday.

The suspect, Giovanni de los Santos, 22, was presented Monday to Senior Superintendent Charles Calima Jr., acting director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

The suspect, however, denied killing Alberto Jabonete Sr., 65, last January 2 in La Carlota.

Investigation showed that the suspect, along with Romulo Faren and Arman Gregorio, stabbed Jabonete several times that caused the instantaneous death of the victim.

Faren and Gregorio are still at large as of this moment, police said.

Probers revealed the three suspects boarded Jabonete's driven tricycle from Hacienda Consuelo, Barangay Rafael Salas Benedicto (RSB), to Hacienda Esperanza, Barangay Nagasi, La Carlota.

Upon reaching Tamburong, Hacienda Najalin, the suspects stabbed the victim to death.

Operatives arrested De los Santos at the house of his relatives in Sitio Lawaan, Barangay Lupit, Batan, Aklan by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Reynaldo Alon of the Regional Trial Court.

Chief Inspector Melchor Coronel, La Carlota police chief, said they are conducting manhunt operations against De los Santos' two other co-suspects.

Calima said from January to March, operatives of the provincial police office arrested 145 wanted persons, five of whom are included in the list of most wanted persons in the province.
