Think positive, troops told
By Claudine C. Dumalag

BARANGAY TILING, CAUAYAN -- Troopers of the 61st Infantry Battalion (IB) here were told to develop a positive mental attitude to counter the threats of terrorism.

Lieutenant Colonel Marcos Norman Flores, who was installed at battalion commander here yesterday assured civilians and his men that under his watch, some kind of transformation will take place.

"I assure you that I am totally committed in carrying out our mandate. In the fulfillment of this, we shall begin with the end in mind and continue to transform our battalion into an empowered organization," Flores told the troopers.

He said he envisioned a battalion where every member has the knowledge, skills, desire, and opportunity to personally succeed in a way that will lead to our collective success.

Flores, a regular trooper of the 61st IB replaced his mistah Lieutenant Colonel Rey Leonardo Guerero.

Guerero was to be assigned in Malacañang's elite Presidential Security Group.

Flores stressed to the troopers the need to continually evolve as an organization just as the enemy continually finds new ways in their struggle against the Army.

He told the troopers: "We cannot afford to be idle. In any kind of transformation, the beginning is always the hardest. Our unit is moving on from a level where we have attained so much in our endeavors. We have all the reasons to be always proud of what our unit has achieved over the years."

Major General Alphonsus Crucero, 3rd Infantry Division commander who was the presiding officer-in-charge of the command ceremony Saturday advised Flores to continue what Guerero had started.

"I advised him to carry on. Let us focus on the problems of insurgency in Negros island," Crucero said.
