Mayor: Verify P21M cash advance thoroughly By Roberto L. Bacasong
MAYOR Evelio Leonardia said the information that axed City Accounting Office (CAO) head Pioquito Quiñones released about his (mayor) obtaining P21 million cash advance should be verified thoroughly.
Leonardia, who was in Surigao when Quiñones disclosed the alleged cash advance, said he was surprised to learn of the exposé from his staff.
"I don't know why Quiñones said I have a cash advance that has not been settled yet," said Leonardia.
He added the real issue is not about the cash advance but Quiñones' failure to perform his job as CAO head.
Leonardia dared Quiñones to "drop the bombshell before it will be spoiled."
Eduardo Ravena, CAO officer-in-charge, earlier said his office can't find any certification that Leonardia incurred the P21 million advances.
Ravena told the media the mayor did not borrow the amount.
"I am waiting for the finish line; I am giving him all the chances," Leonardia said of Quiñones.
Next week, the mayor said he would come up with a recommendation against Quiñones.
Earlier, the mayor said the CAO head is fooling the Bacolodnons because of Quiñones' arrogance by refusing to cooperate with the City Mayor's Office in the submission of certain financial records to the Commission on Audit (COA).
Leonardia said Quiñones is just trying to get the sympathy of the public in his smear campaign against the Leonardia administration.
The mayor said even in the previous administrations, the CAO head failed to submit the report to the COA that prejudiced the operations of other departments at the Bacolod City Hall.
