"Tomb raiders" strike Hinigaran cemetery By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

THE so-called "tomb raiders" in southern Negros Occidental reportedly ransacked the Hinigaran Public Cemetery last Wednesday.
Their target: the niche of Tambitoy Siquenza, known as one of the seven richest men in the town. Siquenza was the great grandfather of former Hinigaran mayor Hermilo "Nonoy" Aguilar.
Agapito Aguilar, concurrent president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Hinigaran and also one of Siquenza's great grandchildren said they discovered the ruined niche of their "lolo" (grandfather) Wednesday afternoon when they were about to bury their nephew Antonio Gelanga.
"It was totally ruined with only a wooden rotten cadaver left," he said. Aguilar said their great grandfather was buried sometime in the late 1800s.
They suspected that the tomb raiders thought there were some other precious things within the cadaver of their "lolo."
"We also don't know whether the alleged tomb raiders are after the skeleton especially the kneecap of our lolo," added Aguilar.
A dead man's kneecap is being used as ingredient in making an "anting-anting" or amulet. The case is now being investigated by the Hinigaran Police.
