Governor's Cup 2005 opens Friday

*On Friday's opening tiff, JS Shell/Shakey's Metro will test the mettle of Toyota at their game set at 5:30 p.m. while the 7 p.m. chores will be between Ceres/Hapee and Ybac/Emarken
*Two squads are from Bacolod, one from Iloilo and the other from Cebu


CAGING actions shift back to the Pohang Gym of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School, as the Negros Basketball Association (NBA) Governor's Cup will open curtains at 5 p.m. Friday.

Guest of honor Governor Joseph Marañon will grace the affair as guest of honor during opening rites in this four-squad competition scheduled for three days.

NBA president and sportsman Oscar "Dodong" Bascon said squaring off for the May 27-29 slated event are Ceres/Hapee from Cebu City; Toyota from Iloilo City; and Bacolod-based squads NBA summer caging champs Ybac/Emarken and JS Shell/Shakey's Metro.

On Friday's opening tiff, JS Shell/Shakey's Metro will test the mettle of Toyota at their game set at 5:30 p.m. while the 7 p.m. chores will be between Ceres/Hapee and Ybac/Emarken.

Games on Saturday will be at 3 p.m., and the second game will be at 6:30 p.m.
The finals will be on Sunday, May 29, with the first game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and second game at 6 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at P10 on the upper area of the gym and P30 on the lower portion.

Line-ups

The Ceres/Hapee team will have former Negros Slasher point guard Maui Huellar with Michael Sereño, Ace Ursal, Chris Caretas, Marvin Tandag, Aries Coloria, Gilbert Castillo, Franklin Bailon, Jeffrey, Bajenteng, Jeffrey France, Chuckie Sibug and Richard Gaberte. Head coach is Jun Noel.

For the Iloilo squad are cagers Sinaon, Porral, Leonida, Pinesa, Abaring,Sencil, Arsenio, Balgos, Seneres, Baclao and Pisuena with head coach Robert Uy.

The line up for Ybac/Emarken are Delina who is the MVP of the last tournament, Moreño, Miravalles, Antiporda, Garrido, Ilagan, Linaja, Laborte, Calago, Serrano, Salazar with head coach Jomarie Panisales.

The line up for JS Shell/Shakey's Metro are cagers Baclay, Bayhon, Villafranca, Castillo, Guno, Cornelio, Kumboy, Sasuman, Belangel, Concha, Gamboa, Abao, Ang, and Ursal with head coach Ireneo Morales.
