NBI agent faces ax if proved discourteous
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan and Ritzy Robles Malo-oy

NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 6 Director Oscar Imbido assured a fair investigation against their Bacolod agent Ed Kawada in case he finally receives a copy of complaint against the latter.

Kawada was accused of harassment, extortion and estafa by club manager Danilo Tabura of Diamond/Angel Disco Bar along Lacson Street in Bacolod City.

Kawada, based on the complaint of Tabura lodged before the Bacolod Police Station 1, allegedly drank bottles of beer in the disco bar Sunday night. Later, when asked for payment, Kawada refused to settle his bills. Instead, he threatened the bar cashier.

Tabura then sought the help of the police who also immediately responded.

Led by BPP1 Commander Senior Inspector Jose Edel Manzano, police operatives cornered Kawada and subjected him to a random check-up as part of the "Operation Bakal".

Recovered from Kawada was his service firearm but with supporting documents. After such trouble, Kawada, however, again went back to the bar.

The NBI agent said Tabura then brought with him his firearm and ran towards the employee's quarter, kicked the door and took pictures of the girls in the said premises.

The complainant also claimed that the suspect asked them for a monthly protection of P5,000 and a cellular phone.

Of the two demands, Tabura said they only gave Kawada a cellular phone.

Meanwhile, NBI-Bacolod officer-in-charge Lawyer Primitivo Najera, in his letter addressed to Bacolod City Police Office Director Vicente Ponteras dated June 4, 2005, stated that NBI-Bacolod operatives will be conducting operation within the city from 12 midnight of June 4 to 6 a.m. of June 5.

However, Manzano said the letter was only presented to them by the NBI only after the incident took place at Angel's Disco Bar.

Imbido assured the public that he would not tolerate the wrong doing of his men if proved to be discourteous.
