Slain Negrenes tagged as 'robbers' in Manila By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
* Bagasin says the Army and the AFP in general want to dig deeper on the investigation so that the truth will prevail
THE slain three Negrenses in an alleged shootout in Manila Sunday dawn were tagged "robbers".
In a Manila report indicated that Police First Class Jesulito Aguilar, 28, and an army operative of 11th Infantry Battalion based in Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City together with his younger brother Jay, 26, and two cousins--Ivan Malunes, 23, a student and Ian Ledesma, 30, were reportedly on board a Nissan Sentra LEC with plate number FEG-900 and were speeding along Quirino Avenue.
Later, they were spotted by patrolling Pasay City Police Officers 2 Enrique Lazaro and Dony Francisco.
When authorities tried to check the vehicle of Aguilar and company, the army soldier allegedly opened fire against the two policemen.
Lazaro was instantly killed while Francisco managed to secure a safe place and fired back against Aguilar's group.
Aguilar, with his two cousins, were later killed on the spot inside the van while his brother Jay, the driver, is still in critical condition at the Ospital ng Maynila.
The Aguilars and their two cousins were natives of Barangay Cabacungan in La Castellana town.
Another Version
Army Lieutenant Richard Esmeralda, spokesman of the 11th Infantry, said Aguilar was formerly assigned in a detachment of 11th IB in Isabela town.
Last month, however, he was sent to the First Regiment Scout Ranger Training School in Bulacan for schooling. But due to academic failure, he was given an order called Return to Permanent Unit.
It was on Sunday that Aguilar was scheduled to leave Manila and go back to La Castellana. Aguilar and his companions reportedly went on a drinking spree along Roxas Boulevard prior to their boarding time to a Negros Navigation vessel.
Report, however, said they engaged in an argument with the policemen in Manila that resulted to the shootout.
Colonel Abraham Bagasin, commanding officer of the 11th IB, disclosed the case is now being investigated by top ranking officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Bagasin said the Army and the AFP in general want to dig deeper on the investigation so that the truth will prevail.
