Lagunday tops Ladies Open

LOPUE'S Table Tennis Association's (Loptta) mainstays Mark Francis Jimenez and Marell Lagunday both impressively posted a no-loss record to capture the men's and women's open championship crown, respectively, in the 2nd Loptta Open and Age-Group Table Tennis Tournament.

The event was held at Lopue's San Sebastian Annex Building last June 2-5.

Jimenez won over Johnard Baldonado, 3-0, in the semi-final round to clinch the championship berth with a twice to beat advantage.

Meanwhile, Baldonado rallied past Arnie Uy, 3-0, to arrange a rematch with Jimenez for the championship crown.

Jimenez then prevailed over Baldonado, 3-1. Uy settled for the third place.

On the distaff side, top lady paddler and RP's Number 6 Marell Lagunday won over her younger sister, Aple, in the semi-final round to gain a slot in the championship round with a twice to beat advantage.

Aple, however, lost to compatriot in the National Prisaa Ruby Ann Longno, 3-0, in the semis to settle for the third spot while Longno advanced to the championship round against the elder Lagunday.

Marell, on the other hand, proved too strong for Longno by winning in a straight set, 3-0.
