Hinigaran, San Carlos drug havens?
By Ryan B. Lachica

THE Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) will be focusing their attention on Hinigaran and San Carlos Cities where drug trafficking is allegedly rampant.

NOPPO Director Senior Superintendent Charles Calima, Jr. said that they have received reports that the two cities are rampant in the illegal drug trade.

San Carlos is alleged to be the "drop zone" of drug shipments coming from Cebu while big time drug lords are allegedly operating in the area of Hinigaran.

Calima, however, said that they will have to evaluate and investigate the matter first before jumping into conclusion.

He already ordered Superintendent Iver Apelyido, commanding officer of 3rd Provincial Mobile Group, to conduct an investigation on the allegations.

San Enrique Police Chief Senior Inspector Raymund Maningo earlier said that suspects who were apprehended in their area have divulged that they usually get their supplies from Hinigaran.

San Enrique was earlier noted as the center of the drug trade in the province but Maningo said the situation has been under control.

He said they have already nailed four of the top pushers in their area and were able to drive away some of them into hiding. The group was said to be the largest operating in San Enrique.

In their operations they have also uncovered that alleged stolen game fowls were being "swapped" for illegal drugs in Hinigaran and San Carlos Cities.

Mayor Jilson Tubillara of San Enrique also said that NOPPO should take immediate action on the problem.

Calima, on the other hand, said he is thankful that the San Enrique officials were very supportive in their campaign against illegal drugs.

He is also considering a nomination for the San Enrique Philippine National Police for a police award in August.
