La Salle cops 7th win By Fernelle C. Rodriguez
THE University of St. La Salle Baby Stingers maintained their untainted lead in the on-going elimination round of the Basketball Unified Sports Group Panasonic 17-Under Basketball Tournament.
The La Salle dribblers easily swept their assignment by defeating two teams over the weekend at the Po hang Gym of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
The Stingers hurdled the hardcourt with tough rivals and last year's runner-up Bacolod Tay Tung High School Saturday morning.
It was the moment of truth for the two teams as both tried to topple each other. Both were on top of the tally board then.
The La Salle dribblers, however, overpowered the Tay Tung players, gaining their sixth win, 75-64. The Stingers secured 50 baskets in the half-time as Tay Tung boarded with 28.
The La Salle team then clinched their seventh win by defeating St. Joseph's High School yesterday noon. The Baby Stingers easily breezed thru their game by topping over their opponents by also half score, 103-57.
The Tay Tung dribblers, on the other hand, did not languish after their earlier defeat but thumped on to secure a victory against St. Rose of Lima School Saturday afternoon, 77-70.
La Consolacion School-Gardenville copped two wins over the weekend by defeating Trinity Christian School, 105-81 yesterday, and controlled the ball Saturday over University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Team B, 89-48.
St. John's Institute captured sixth win by defeating TCS Saturday, 110-66.
Individual team win-loss record as of Aug. 14, 2005 are USLS, 7-0; SJI, 6-1; Tay Tung and Mansilingan Christian Academy, 5-1; SJHS, 4-2; UNO-R A, 2-4; LCS-G, 2-5, STROLS and TCS, 2-6; UNO-R B, 0-8. Bing Soyao is BUS Group's team organizer while league commissioner is Melvin Baclay.
