Stingers nip Rams in 6th Lopue's Cup
REIGNING Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association champion University of St. La Salle Team A showed form and skill in the University of St. La Salle-Negros Occidental Volleyball Association Inter-Club Volleyball Championships 6th Lopue's Cup.
The Stingers Team A, mentored by Philippine Volleyball Federation and NOVA president and USLS sports director Roger Banzuela fired up the ball in their game held at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court against rival spikers from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Bacolod Saturday to take on the lead in the Men's Class A division.
The spikers swept the game, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18.
They also overpowered comrades USLS Team B yesterday at the USLS - Integrated School Covered Court, 25-11, 25-10, 25-23.
The team now has a 3-0 win-loss record.
The UNO-R men's team, mentored by coach Jason Delmo, earlier earned a victory over last year's third placer Lopue's team on August 6, 25-22, 10-25, 25-22, 26-24.
The team then overpowered comebacking team from Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod on August 7, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23.
Lopue's team, on the other hand, defeated CSA-B yesterday, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.
In Men's Class B division, Sagay Central, Stinger's Club, and USLS-Student Nursing Association earned their second victories, also over the weekend.
Sagay Central beat College of Business and Accountancy Bimbo's Best yesterday, 25-14, 25-19, 15-25, 26-16 while USLS-SNA overpowered PCE, 13-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20.
The Stinger's Club, on the other hand, beat out PCE on Saturday, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18.
Defending champion in the Men and Women's Class A divisions Philippine Navies will compete in the semi-final round of the tournament.
The Men's Class A tournament format will be an SRRS elimination, crossover finals. The champion and the first runner-up will qualify to play in the Lopue's Cup Invitational.
In Women's Class A tournament format will be SRRS elimination to determine ranking. Racks 3 and 4 will play for third place. The top two teams will play for the championships.
In Men and Women's Class B tournament format will be elimination to determine ranking. A modified Page System will be applied in the finals.
