NFSW organizer missing, organization blames military By Ryan B. Lachica
AN ORGANIZER of the Negros Federation of Sugar Workers (NFSW) was reported missing by his wife since Monday night last week.
Nieva Geagoni, 40, reported the disappearance of her husband Perseus to the police only Monday afternoon.
Perseus, 42, was last seen leaving their house at Zone 14, Talisay city last Monday at 7 pm.
Nieva narrated that her husband asked for permission to get something in the NFSW office located along Verbena street in Bacolod city.
By 9 p.m. of that day, Nieva already got worried because her husband had not returned.
She then decided to call the NFSW office and inquire about her husband's whereabouts. She was told that he already left the office.
Perseus' family then tried to contact him in his cellphone but his phone just kept on ringing.
Nieva said she was used to her husband being gone for several days because of the demands of his job. There was even a time when a week passed by before he came home, she added.
However, on those occasions, he usually informs her of his whereabouts through text messaging.
Nieva suspects that something is terribly wrong, as he had not contacted them for several days already.
Perseus' cellphone can still be reached up until the second day of his disappearance.
The family of Geagoni did not immediately report the incident hoping that he would return. It was only after a week had passed that they decided to come out.
Azera Murillo, Perseus' elder sister, strongly believes that her brother's disappearance is "job related".
"He had been an active organizer since he was in 1st year college," she said.
Her brother also told her that there were persons trailing him.
"A week prior to his disappearance two men on motorcycle have been asking information about him. A neighbor confirmed this. (This neighbor) added that these men were asking for Perseus' whereabouts and routine," his sister narrated.
Junjun Bareta, Chairman of NFSW, strongly believes that the military is behind the disappearance of his co-worker.
"Its a systematic campaign promoted by the Arroyo administration. There have also been unsolved cases of NFSW members who were killed." added Barreta.
"They (military) have been linking us to the communist but we are just a progressive and militant group," justifies Barreta.
The case is now being investigated by the Police Precinct 6.
