SM in city to generate 5T jobs

MAYOR Evelio Leonardia said Monday at least 5,000 job opportunities await Bacolodnons as soon as the construction of SM City in Bacolod City will start early next year.

This, after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has finally issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) to the SM Prime Holdings, Inc. on Dec. 10.

Leonardia said the mall will enhance the landscape of the city as well the tax collection and revenues.

"The developer has trust and confidence that their expansion in our city will turn out successful," he added.

The mayor urged his fellow officials to cooperate with and welcome the new investor in Bacolod.

The proposed mall is 50 percent bigger than the present giant malls here.
It will have four cinemas and 100 store-outlets.

Its target of completion is on October 2006 in line with the city's celebration of its Charter Anniversary and the Masskara Festival.

Leonardia further said that the City has many plans for the development of the area at reclamation area.

He added that they will enhance the traffic system around the area as soon as the construction of the new mall will begin.

He further said that the vendors around the area will also be developed in order to look attractive to the passers-by.
