PhilSoc still to send bottled water for the SEA Games By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
ASIDE from cash, the Bacolod Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (BaSoc) needs water, too. But not just any water. It must be distilled water.
This was after BaSoc secretary-general Eric Loretizo told Sun.Star that aside from millions of pesos they are expecting from the Philippine Sea Games Organizing Committee (PhilSoc) for the reimbursement of some of their remaining obligations incurred during the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Bacolod, they are also hoping for the release of 6,000 boxes of mineral water that are now in PhilSoc-Manila.
Loretizo said these bottled mineral water have already been allocated by their sponsor for Bacolod.
However, PhilSoc held the boxes in Manila and promised to send them to Bacolod supposedly during the duration of the games. Until now, however, the stocks have not arrived.
"We hope to receive these 6,000 boxes of mineral water the soonest time possible," the BaSoc secretary-general said.
Asked what BaSoc intends to do in case these 6,000 boxes of mineral water arrive in Bacolod, Loretizo said, "We don't have any plans yet. Not until we have the items in custody."
BaSoc at present faces about P35 million in unpaid obligations.
These include the P20 million for the rehabilitation works at the Paglaum Sports Complex.
The amount that shall be paid to Dynamic Builders of the Yanson family, said Loretizo, will come from the Department of Public Works and Highways as promised by Sec. Hermogenes Ebdane.
Also, BaSoc is waiting for the P12 million so as to fully pay all the hotels in Bacolod that the foreign delegates were billeted.
These include the Sugarland Hotel, Casino Filipino Hotel, Check Inn, Circle Inn, Prominence Inn, Business Inn, L'Fisher Hotel, Grand Regal Hotel and Bacolod Convention Plaza Hotel.
More than a thousand volunteers, liaisons and victory stewards are also waiting for their remaining allowances that sums up to almost P2.8 million as promised by PhilSoc.
Loretizo, however, is optimistic that before the year ends, all these payables will be settled. He also vowed not to leave Bacolod until these obligations are settled.
