City reminds biz to renew license
By Roberto L. Bacasong

THE Office of the Building Official (OBO) is urging all business owners in Bacolod City to renew their business permits for next year.

Officer-in-charge Teresita Guadalupe said her office is now accepting the applications for renewal of business permits for 2006.

Guadalupe said the process is required under Presidential Decree 1096 or the National Building Code of the Philippines.

To process the permits, she said, businessmen should attach their 2005 Annual Safety Inspection Certificate to their 2006 business permit application.

Without the attached certificate, she said no business permits shall be processed at OBO.

New business establishments will also be subject to the annual safety inspection.

The building official in-charge also revealed that since 2003, 670 business firms were found to have violated the building code.

Under Section 301 of the National Code Building of the Philippines, no persons, firm or corporation, including any agency or instrumentality of the government shall erect, construct, alter, repair, move, convert, or demolish any building without first obtaining permit from the OBO assigned in the place where the subject building is located or the building work is to be done.

At present, she said only 300 establishments have complied with the requirements of the OBO.

Guadalupe is sending notices to these "violators."

"We are imposing punishment to the violators. We are not tolerating the owners to violate the law stipulated under the local building code," she said.

Among those who were identified by the OBO as having committed some violations of the building code were the Orient Marine, Cozy Nook, Manila Industrial, GR Furniture, Jose Montalbo, APM Advertising, ACS Commercial, Charlie Trading and Cegasco.

Also in the list are ACE Marketing, Negros Marketing Corp., JM Glass, Bacolod Pension, Terra Bella Holdings, Monterey Meat Shop, United Neon, Tire Haus, Color Ads, Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp., Fuji Film, 7th Day Adventist, Forest Hill Subdivision, GC&C Business Center and Pharma V.
