'Bonnet gang' victim confirmed raped
By Ryan B. Lachica

A FEMALE college student who was reportedly abducted by six bonnet-wearing men alleged to be members of the newly-resurrected "Bonnet gang" in Bacolod City was confirmed having been sexually molested.

Eli Cong, City Medical Officer V who conducted an examination on the victim, said there were abrasions on her sex organ.

Abrasions, said Cong, are tangible signs that could prove that indeed the victim was really raped.

Aside from abrasions, signs of hematoma or blood clots in both legs of the victim were also found, Cong added.

Cong also said that based on the victim's accounts, the suspects inserted their fingers on her private part one after the other which, explains the abrasions.

While the hematoma was caused by the suspects holding of victim's legs aimed at stopping her to struggle.

The victim, whose name being withheld by Sun.Star, said around 4 p.m. on Tuesday while she was walking in front of a mall in Mandalagan, Bacolod, a white Mitsubishi L-300 van suddenly stopped in front of her.

Someone then dragged her inside the van.

Inside the van, she said she saw six young men, five of them were wearing bonnet except for the driver.

She was later blindfolded and then molested while the van was running.

After four hours, the suspects dropped her off to the place where she was allegedly forcibly taken.

The Women and Children's Complaints Desk (WCCD) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) tasked to handle the case is now conducting follow-up operations to apprehend the suspects.

But as of press time, the WCCD is still facing blank wall.

City Police chief Senior Supt. Pedro Merced, on the other hand, already issued warning to young women in the city to take precautionary measures in going out their house, school or office especially during night time.
