3 Negros mayors suffer health problem
By Erwin Ambo s. Delilan

THREE mayors in the Province of Negros Occidental are now suffering from health problems.

Governor Joseph Marañon said Tuesday Escalante City Mayor Santiago "Mai-Mai" Barcelona was confined for several days in a hospital in Manila for a disease concerning his heart.

However, as of press time, Marañon said Barcelona was reportedly out of the hospital.

"He's doing good now and has fully recovered. Anytime soon he will be back in Escalante City," added the governor.

But prior to Barcelona's confinement in Manila, he was first rushed to Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod, added Marañon.

Aside from Barcelona, Hinoba-an Mayor Francisco "Paking" Bilbao is also ill.

Bilbao has been absent from office since November last year. He was reportedly been diagnosed with slight cirrhosis of the liver.

The Hinoba-an mayor, the report said, had been confined in a hospital in Iloilo City. He was transferred to a hospital in Manila last month to undergo a thorough check up with a specialist.

Marañon, however, said Bilbao applied for extension of his leave of absence until Feb. 15 this year.

Meanwhile, Mayor Anthony Lizares was also reportedly not in good condition as of press time.

But the governor refused to comment on Lizares' case because he said, "I have no contact with the mayor."
