Tilapias in lagoon give province P30T
BELIEVE it or not, the Province of Negros Occidental has already earned a total of about P30,000 from the tilapia being sold and fished out at the Capitol lagoon.
Governor Joseph Marañon said Tuesday that since they opened the lagoon for fishing at Christmas time, a total of 1,100 kilos of fishes have already been harvested from the lagoon.
Persons tasked to oversee the harvest requires "customers" to pay P30 for every kilo they catch.
Marañon said the fishing will continue until no more tilapias are present in the lagoon.
The governor said they are mulling to breed hybrid tilapias or any other fishes that will suit with the park's water.
The said tilapias were given for free before to the Provincial Jail for the inmates' consumption. Some charitable institutions also benefited from the harvest. (EASD)
