Army meal allowance remains at P60 per day By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
MURCIA -- A high-ranking officer of the army said the soldier's meal subsistence allowance remains at P60 a day regardless of rank.
The outgoing commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command (AFP-CECOM) in the Visayas, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Teodosio bared this to soldiers at the 303rd Infantry Brigade at Barangay Minoyan Friday morning.
Teodosio, 56, is set to retire from the military service on January 21.
The government's austerity measure, he said, was the reason for his retirement.
He, however, appealed to the soldiers not to feel demoralize as the said meal allowance is on top of their basic monthly salary.
Record showed that ordinary soldiers are receiving a basic monthly salary of P11,000 for the private and private first class; corporal -- P12,000; sergeant -- P14,000; staff sergeant -- P15,000; technical sergeant -- P15,500 and P16,000 for master sergeant.
The 1st and 2nd lieutenant, captain, major, colonel and general are receiving above P25,000 monthly.
"That's why being a soldier, we should be very proud of our profession because it is one of the noblest professions in the world," stressed Teodosio.
The AFP, Teodosio said, has always been good to soldiers.
"So, let's treasure the AFP by rendering good service, loyalty and dedication for the sake of peace," he told his subordinates.
He also urged the Negros soldiers to always make a difference in their lives and service and have a contribution to the country and fellowmen.
"There's no certainty in this world and that we may never pass this way again," he added.
For 34 years in service, Teodosio said, "I am very proud to be a soldier. I cease the days during my stint at the AFP and I knew that I have contributed a lot in my own way for the good of AFP and for peace and development in the country."
On NPA
Teodosio, on the other hand, is not discounting the possibility that members of the mainstream Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) are still on mission of doing hostile actions against the government troops.
He, however, said that NPAs' presence in the country, particularly in the Visayas remains manageable.
Teodosio said additional troops will not be deployed to the Negros and Panay islands contrary to what he said on his previous visit in the brigade late last year.
The reason according to him was that the AFP Southern Command will not release yet their troops in Mindanao because of the reactivation of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. (EASD)
