Be patient, GSIS e-card holders told
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

BE PATIENT, was the appeal Beloy Abesias, branch manager of Union Bank-Bacolod to all Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) e-card holders in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City who are having problems in withdrawing cash from their accounts.

Abesias, in a telephone interview, admitted Wednesdya that the Union Bank central office is experiencing problems with the e-card system.

This has also affected their clientelle's access in other banks.

"The case is only isolated in the cities of Bacolod, Iloilo, Tagbilaran and Tacloban. This is because these cities have only one branch each," Abesias explained.

The problem was not encountered in Cebu, Manila and Davao cities as these areas have ample Union Bank branches.

The problem in Bacolod was that e-card holders can't access their accounts on GSIS dividends in other banks.

E-card holders have lined up at the Union Bank's ATM machines in Araneta for several days hoping to gain access to their accounts.

Abesias asked for patience as they are doing their best to patch up the trouble.

He added that if the e-card holders will continue to try accessing their accounts in other local banks, their account might be slashed out even if no withdrawals are made.

Worse, a reconciliation of an account may take more than two weeks.

At present, Abesias said their Manila branch has only re-serviced about 15 percent of their system while 85 percent more is yet to be corrected.

This correction process may take weeks, he added.
