Council fails to approve 2006 budget

THE P49-million proposed 2006 annual budget for the Municipality of EB Magalona was not yet approved after the Municipal Council deferred the approval on Wednesday's regular session.

Mayor Alfonso Gamboa did not acknowledge the program of works presented by each department head.

"My Labster Chit-Chat". Post your Valentine greetings and stories here.

The per department program that is to be funded under the 20-percent Development Fund is also part of the entire annual budget of the town.

Also under the 20-percent development fund is the appropriation intended for the salaries and wages of about 57 contractual, casual, and job order employees who were not paid of their salaries and wages for two weeks now.

The Council stressed that Vice Mayor David Albert Lacson is only asking for the specifics of program or project in every department of the municipality.

But Gamboa, Lacson said, had asked for an extension as he wants to detail everything.

Lacson said they would wait until the mayor finished the specifics that they are asking.

However, Lacson said the councilors to be led by Councilor Allan Villaruz, would meet with the casual employees at the Municipal Council hall of the town.

"We will explain to the casuals what caused the delay of their salaries and wages and the factors behind the present mess," said Lacson.

He is hoping that the "aggrieved" employees would understand their side over the matter.

Meanwhile, he belied the allegation of Gamboa that he and the rest of the councilors "hostage" the budget of municipality.

Lacson stressed, "We did not hostage the budget. We just want a clear explanation on every proposal to be financed by the town's money." (EASD)
