Task force LPG formed in NegOcc

TO PROTECT legitimate players and Negros consumers from any "unscrupulous" LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) dealers or retailers who might exploit the rise in prices due to the recent implementation of the expanded value added tax (VAT), a Task Force LPG in the province was formed Thursday.

The creation of the task force was in pursuant of a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Energy, and Department of Interior and Local Government.

The Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection were also included as members and enforcers in the task force.

Provincial Police Director Charles Calima Jr. said the very purpose of the formulation of the task force is to monitor the retailing and selling of LPG tanks in the entire province.

Calima said the said task force was created to protect the public from being cheated and being put in danger due to substandard LPG tanks.

Calima admitted that after the expanded VAT implementation, prices of LPG tanks especially the 11 kilograms went up three times already.

With this, Calima said, LPG users are now confused on the exact pricing of the said commodity.

"With Task Force LPG, at least the public will be assured that they wouldn't be victimized of wrong pricing," stressed Calima. (EASD)
