Monico cup 2006: Teams urged to beat deadline
By Henry C. Villalva

BARANGAY-based basketball teams in Bacolod City who intend to see action in the 4th edition of the Monico Cup Inter-Barangay Summer Basketball Tournament are being encouraged by organizers to submit their lineup on or before March 4 deadline.

The tournament is a project of Bacolod Representative Monico O. Puentevella.

"This is in order to enable the tournament committee to thoroughly review their documents," tournament chairman Nicky Puentevella said.

Based on our experience many players get disqualified from paying due to their inability to submit correct documents for eligibility but this can be avoided if participating teams comply with the requirements on time," Puentevella added.

In a meeting with team representatives and tournament officials last February 11, it was decided that the deadline for the submission of team lineups will be on March 4 at 2 p.m.

However, coaches and team reps would meet again in the same venue on March 18 at 2 p.m. to draw lots for the bracketing.

The Under-19 and Under-26 would be competed. Macoy Odango will be the commissioner for Under-26 while Rolando "Jack" Mara¤on is for the Under-19 division.

Defending champion in the Under-26 Barangay Singcang-Airport is expected to face tough competition from three runners-up squads while Under-19 champ Barangay Tangub would show stuff in their division.

The competition is slated to kick-off mid-April.
