NPA to attack 3 police precincts
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

AT LEAST three police precincts in Bacolod City are in the hitlist of the New Peoples Army of the Communist Party, the joint intelligence monitoring report of the police and Army said.

Also in the hitlist were businessmen Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco and Simplicio Palanca and Governor Joseph Marañon as among its targets.

The report was revealed during a press conference held at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) Monday morning.

According to the reports, police precincts 2 along Lacson Street, 5 in Barangay Granada and 10 in Barangay Handumanan are to be attacked by the leftist group.

The reports coincided with the recent order of Western Visayas Police Director Doroteo Reyes II who advised policemen in the region to be always on their guard.

Reyes said based on their intelligence monitoring in the region, the NPA may implement its attack plans either in Panay island or in Negros Occidental province very soon.

Colonel Jerry Jalandoni of the Army's 303rd Infantry Brigade said though that they are yet to validate and revalidate this intelligence report.

"This is not confirmed nor final. But we are prepared to avert any atrocities to be launched by the rebels during Holy Week," he declared.

Jalandoni also said that several intelligence operatives reported on the recent sightings of the communist rebels in the northern portions of the province.

"That's why we should not be complacent. We should prepare (in places) at least one or two kilometers away from every police office or army detachment. (We should) not end up victims of the rebels this Holy Week, he added.

Meanwhile, Jalandoni also suspects that the latest hit list could only be a ploy for the NPA's enhanced extortion activities.
