La Carlota, NOHS lead squads to semis

LA CARLOTA City's Doņa Hortensia Salas Benedicto National High School and Negros Occidental High School are the top two teams going into the semi-final round of the ongoing Shakey's Girls 18-Under Volleyball Invitational League Negros Occidental eliminations at the University of St. La Salle Covered Court.

The La Carlota squad topped the elimination round with a 6-1 win-loss record with its only loss being at the hands of host University of St. La Salle, which handed them a 25-23, 17-25, 25-19 loss last Saturday.

Meanwhile, NOHS easily one of the pre-tournament favorites in this series sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) headed by USLS varsity sports director Roger Banzuela, defeated St. Benilde School, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18 to likewise be in a position to figure in the semifinal round of this event that will allow the winners to compete in the Manila national finals via an all-expense paid trip.

In other games, Doņa Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School of Silay City downed Bata National High School, 25-22, 25-16, as we as La Consolacion College-Main, 25-16, 25-23, to post a 5-2, win loss slate at the end of the elimination round thereby earning the third seat for the semis.

LCC-Main took the fourth semis ticket, via a 25-23, 25-21 win at the expense of St. Joseph's School-La Salle.

Last Friday, NOHS defeated LCC-Main in three sets, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24 and later prevailed over USLS, 25-13, 25-12 while DHSBNHS drubbed LCC-Main, 25-12, 19-25, 25-21.

The La Carlota squad later dumped SJS-LS, 26-24, 25-17 even as Doņa Monserrat also posted two wins, first was over St. Benilde School, 25-15, 25-9; and the second over SJS-LS, 25-16, 25-13.

Host USLS likewise fashioned a win last Friday over Bata National High School, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20.
