Four football clubs book U-17 semis berth By Henry C. Villalva
IT WILL be another clash of seeded squads when the semi-finals of the ongoing Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) Under-17 Inter-Clubs Provincial Football Championship unfolds Friday afternoon at the University of St. La Salle pitch.
After the end of the elimination round, San Carlos City Football Club topped Bracket A and will clash against Pontevedra Football Club, the No. 2 team in Bracket B, during Friday's first semis match scheduled at 1 p.m.
This will be followed by the match up between West Negros College, the top team in Bracket B, against the No. 2 team in Bracket A which is Victorias Football Club in the second semi encounter scheduled at 3 p.m.
On Friday morning, the semi-final matches of the Red Ribbon Under-15 competition will also be played at the USLS pitch starting at 8 a.m. with the other semis match scheduled at 9:30 a.m.
As of press deadline yesterday, Valladolid FC was still playing against Ma-ao United FC which was to have a bearing on the top four sides from the two brackets following the end of the single elimination round.
Last Tuesday, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School II FC blanked Negros Occidental High School, 5-0; Handumanan United FC posted a one-sided, 11-0, victory over hapless Talisay FC; San Carlos City FC blanked St. Benilde Integrated School, 4-0; Pontevedra FC blanked Bago City FC, 3-0 and Victorias FC whitewashed Valladolid FC, 8-0.
In yesterday's matches, St. Benilde rebounded with a 5-0 drubbing of NOHS; Pontevedra and Handumanan settled for a scoreless draw; and San Carlos proved too much for ABES II, 6-0.
The winner in the Under-17 series will carry the colors of NOFA in the Visayas regional championship, which will be hosted by the Cebu FA in Cebu City sometime next month.
Eleven teams are seeing action in the Red Ribbon Under-15 event while another seven sides are entered in the Under-17 inter clubs competition.
Both tournaments are part of the calendar of competitions of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) of which NOFA headed by Fourth District Rep. Carlos Cojuangco, is an affiliate.
