LHCA, BTTHS, USLS Nursing-A post wins By Henry C. Villalva
BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Alumni, University of St. La Salle Nursing-A, Living Heritage Christian Academy-B and USLS posted wins over their respective rivals Wednesday as games in the 2006 Gaisano 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament resumed at the Gaisano City Mall basement activity center.
Bacolod Tay Tung High School Alumni composed of RB Chua, Carl Idemne, Richard Belonio and Ben Romero nipped St. John's Institute-B in yesterday's first game, 10-9 while University of St. La Salle led by Joseph Alipato drubbed, Emarken, 10-5 in the second game.
Meanwhile, Living Heritage Christian Academy-B bounced back into the win column after suffering an opening-day, 6-7, loss at the hands of La Salle Nursing-A by posting a convincing, 9-6, victory over Bacolod Tay Tung High School-A composed of Chris Sibaya, Kim Flores, Alvin Cua, John Espina and Allan Paul Morales.
In yesterday's final matchup, Duke, missing the services of twins Jason and Jordan Abellao, bowed to La Salle Nursing-A, 10-11, in overtime with Gerald Abrot sinking his gift shot in the dying seconds of the extension.
A total of 17 teams composed of players below 19 years of age are seeing action in this tournament which runs until Friday, May 19, according to tournament manager Rolando "Jack" Marañon, the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) Western Visayas regional commissioner.
Games resume today with Bacolod Tay Tung High School-B taking on Bacolod Christian Education Center School in the first game scheduled at 2 p.m. This will be followed by the matchup featuring Cadiz versus Paglaum Village, St. John's Institute-A against La Salle Nursing-B and the day's final match-up between West Negros College and Shohuku.
On April 21, at 1:30 p.m., Duke guns for win number two in Bracket A when it takes on Emarken at 1:30 p.m. followed by SJI-B versus BTTHS-A, La Salle Nursing-A versus Tay Tung Alumni and Living Heritage Christian Academy-B against University of St. La Salle.
Cash prizes of P10,000, P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000 await the top four finishers of this event which is Gaisano City's way of reaching out to its youth clientele this summer, according to Gaisano City events coordinator Nomer Lobaton.
