Mansilingan, Pahanocoy, Singcang-Airport drub rivals

PRE-TOURNAMENT picks Barangays Mansilingan, Pahanocoy and Singcang-Airport posted convincing victories over their respective opponents Tuesday as games in the 19-Under division of the 2006 4th Monico Cup Inter-Barangay Summer Basketball tournament resumed at the Barangay Punta Taytay Gym.

The Mansilingan cagers mentored by former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) campaigner Genesis Sasuman drubbed Barangay Mandalagan, 71-65, after trailing, 33-37 at the half.

Four cagers accounted for the come-from-behind win as Teddy Dane Azucena, Jorge Manuel Bautista, John Guara and John Paul Calma finished with 13, 12, 11 and nine points, respectively, for the victory while Javin Jacob had a game-high 19 points in Mandalagan's losing effort.

John King Peña and Brian Brion tallied 14 apiece.

Meanwhile, Pahanocoy relied on Jomar Jadulos' 17 points plus 13 and 10 each from Grifter Gigje and Harold Maligmat, respectively, for its 72-64 victory over Barangay 64 which saw Filconrad Edano top-scoring with a game-high 26 points, 12 from Mark Vincent Porras and another 10 from Jaysano Basa.

Barangay 38, meanwhile, debuted with a 69-51 win over Barangay 14 with Ralph Lesaca finishing with 25 points while Alexander Astrologo chipped in with 11 and Jay Jardeleza with nine points.

Alyn Sumpay had a team-high 14 points for Barangay 14 while lan Reyes and Romano Aquino combined for another 20 points for the loss.

Games in the 19-Under division resume on April 22 in Barangay Handumanan with Banago taking on Montevista at 8 a.m. followed at 9:30 a.m. by the matchup featuring Barangay 12 against Punta Taytay while Cabug meets Barangay 38 at 2 p.m. and Barangay 10 takes on Singcang-Airport at 3:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, games in the 26-Under division of this event resume on Friday at the Barangay Granada gym with Estefania taking on Barangay 16 in the 8:30 a.m.
opener followed at 10 a.m. by the clash between Villamonte and Barangay 39 while at 1 p.m.

Montevista takes on Barangay 10 followed by Taculing versus Barangay 12 at 2:30 p.m. and Tangub takes Barangay 3 in the last scheduled game at 3:30 p.m.
