Bank ransacked but no cash taken
By Genalin D. Ducay

THE robbers who ransacked a bank in Bacolod City Tuesday morning may be the same group that have recently victimized other establishments in the area, police said.

Police investigator Willie Perez said the robbers entered the roof of Equitable PCI Bank on Gatuslao St. to gain access to the establishment.

Perez said looting activities where robbers use the roof to gain access to an establishment are rampant along Gonzaga St., adjacent to Gatuslao St. The robbers, though, usually prey on auto supplies shops, he said.

Bacolod City Police Director Pedro Merced admitted the difficulty in capturing these robbers in the act as his cops are only tasked to patrol at ground level and would possibly miss culprits lurking on the rooftops.

Last Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., the robbers entered the bank by passing through the bank's roof with iron grills, and escaped unnoticed, bringing with them two .38 caliber revolvers. The guns are under license of the Diplomat Security Agency.

The firearms were forcibly taken from the cabinet near the bank's main door.

Head guard of the security agency Jimmy Sabillon, who was assigned in the bank, discovered the missing items and immediately reported it to Cyril Bernal, the banking center head.

Bernal told police officers that the robbers went through the second floor's comfort room and later went to the ground floor.

With the drawers and things in disarray, Perez assumed that the suspects were looking for cash but found none.

No other items appeared to be missing apart from the two firearms, although, Perez said, they are still doing an inventory.
