BTTHS-B nips LHCA-A in overtime By Henry C. Villalva
BASKETBALL fans who trooped to the basement activity center of Gaisano City Supermall Thursday were treated to exciting basketball between Bacolod Tay Tung High School-B and Living Heritage Christian Academy-A in a Bracket B encounter of the ongoing 2006 Gaisano 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
Playing to overtime, the Tay Tung cagers led by point guard Kenneth Cusay and slotman John Victor Go eventually bested their Living Heritage counterparts composed of hard-working guard Anthony Caņizares, Jhoneco Canillo, Danmark Lestano and Ryan Mark Navos, 11-10.
They post an advantage in the standings going into the forthcoming cross-over semi-finals phase of this competition for players who are not over 19 years of age and sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) through Western Visayas regional commissioner Rolando "Jack" Mara¤on, the tournament manager of the Gaisano series.
Meanwhile, defending champion West Negros College drubbed out-of-town entry Cadiz, 10-5, to likewise strengthen its bid to grab a semi-final berth in Bracket B with both teams missing one player each in Thursday's elimination round clash.
WNC was without slotman Michael Noble who is campaigning with the Western Visayas squad in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa in Naga City while Cadiz likewise missed the services of slotman Logie Cortez.
Bacolod Christian Education Center School and Shohuku defaulted their scheduled encounter Thursday, so did St. John's Institute-A and Paglaum Village.
The Wesnecans, mentored by Jack Tumayan, were slated to take on the Nimer Nierves-coached LHCA-A team late Friday in a match expected to firm up both sides' position in the standings in Bracket B going into the semis.
Maraņon said Thursday both La Salle Nursing-A and Tay Tung Alumni have already secured the top two slots in Bracket A.
The crossover semis is scheduled on May 18 while the championship and awarding ceremonies will be on May 28. (HCV)
