3 missing fishermen found alive in Cebu
AFTER five days of searching by their loved ones in Barangay Daga, Cadiz City, three fishermen who were reported missing during the onslaught of tropical storm "Caloy" last week were found alive in Cebu Tuesday afternoon.
But 25-year-old Gleen Delorosa, who was reported to have a mental illness, was found dead in Isla de Gegante, Iloilo.
"At least I am happy that the three fishermen for crabs in their city are still alive," said Cadiz City Mayor Salvador "Bading" Escalante Jr.
Those found alive were Soljen Locsin, and father and son Banhaw and Toto de la Cruz.
The three went on "pamanggal" (crab fishing) on Thursday morning despite the typhoon.
Later that day, the three failed to go home, prompting their relatives to ask for assistance from Escalante.
Create Rescue Group, Cadiz City Bantay Dagat and Philippine Coast Guard, including the relatives searched the Visayas waters but to no avail.
It was only until Tuesday that the fishermen were rescued in Cebu.
Meanwhile, the mayor extends his condolences to the Delorosas for the "double" tragedy brought about by Caloy in their family.
Adelino Delorosa, 55, was also found dead Sunday, three days after he was reported missing. Adelino went after Gleen, his son, after the latter failed to go home last Thursday afternoon.
Adelino's body was carried back to Cadiz by the Cadiz's Create Rescue Group and City Bantay Dagat from Concepion, Iloilo Monday.
With the recent report that Gleen was found dead in Isla de Higante, also in
Iloilo, Escalante said, "I will also commission a team that will fetch Gleen's body in Iloilo."
Escalante also vowed to help all he way the bereaved Delorosa family in the burial and funeral expenses of the victims. (EASD)
