Power firms explain 4-hour brownout By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
PURELY repair and maintenance works.
This was the explanation made by the National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) and Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) Tuesday on the power outage that hit Bacolod City, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto towns Monday midnight until the wee hours of Tuesday.
Glynn Bulfa, supervisor of TransCo substations, said it was a scheduled power interruption for them to repair some of their damaged conductors and "hot spot" lines that were causing loose connections.
"We also conducted some maintenance works," Bulfa said.
TransCo's power interruption started at 12:04 dawn. The power supply went back at 2 a.m. Tuesday.
But Bulfa said Ceneco rode on their power interruption that affected major areas, including the downtown area of Bacolod from 12th Lacson Street in the north up to Barangay Tangub in the south.
The power outage was also experienced in the Lopez Jaena area, Singcang-Airport, Magsungay, J.R. Torres, Villamonte, Ceneco-Mabini area, Vista Alegre and Libertad down to Mansilingan, Murcia town to Don Salvador Benedicto.
Joseph Coronica, emergency section officer-in-charge of Ceneco, said among their repair and maintenance works done at the time included the replacement of old wooden posts, removal of obsolete capacitors and the installation of steps up the posts.
Ceneco resumed its power supply at around 5 a.m. Tuesday. (EASD)
