Hunger, fear, fatigue 'force' three of five jail escapees to give up
TWO inmates who bolted from the Sipalay City jail last Sunday surrendered to authorities in Sipalay City yesterday afternoon.
Hunger and fatigue forced the escapees to surrender as well as fear of their lives as they were being pursued by the police.
They are Rey Alquizar, 26, and Mandy Marfil, 19.
One of the escapees, a 16-year-old boy has surrendered Monday.
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) Director Charles Calima Jr. said Alquizar of Barangay Manlocahoc, Sipalay who is facing charges for frustrated homicide, surrendered at 3 p.m. to Staff Sergeant Albert Osabia of the Barasbarasan Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Detachment of the 12th Infantry Battalion PA at Sitio Barasbarasan, Barangay Manlocahoc.
He also brought with him an M-16 rifle (Serial No. 184509) with three magazines that he took from PO1 Anthony A. Alipoon, the guard on duty at the time of their escape.
The officer indorsed him to the Sipalay Police Station.
An hour after Alquizar' surrender, Marfil of Sitio Tanduay, Barangay Camindangan surrendered to Barangay Captain Eller Boris of the said barangay.
He is facing a case for frustrated murder.
Marfil also turned in a set of green camouflage uniform and a magazine for M16 rifle owned by Police Officer 1 Joebert B Benjamin.
Boris turned over Marfil to Army Pfc Jose Galapin of the Cabadiangan Cafgu Detachment also of the 12th IB, PA who later indorsed him over to the Sipalay City Police Station.
The 16-year-old boy who is charges for cattle rustling surrendered at Sitio Camolayan, Brgy Mambaroto, Sipalay to City Council Nathaniel Celis.
Two other escapees remain at large as of press time. They are Stanley Laurente, 18, of Crossing Maoy, Barangay Camingdangan and a 17-year-old boy from Barangay Cartagena who is facing charged for murder and theft.
They were reported seen in Hinobaan town, Calima disclosed.
The joint elements of the PNP and the Philippine Army are still conducting manhunt operation against the other remaining escapees. (EASD)
