Tajanlangit 'walang utang na loob' By Roberto L. Bacasong
ROGELIO Balo, secretary to the Mayor, criticized Dr. Mario Tajanlangit, head of the Bacolod City College (BCC), for his lack of compassion and gratefulness.
Balo said he now regrets endorsing Tajanlangit to head the BCC to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
He said he had kept his silence long enough on the issue on Tajanlangit's post.
When he (Tajanlangit) "was telling people that I was the one who initiated the complaint of several BCC teachers against him," Balo said Tajanlangit showed no gratitude.
But Tajanlangit said, "(Dr.) Balo is putting words in his mouth. I will only leave my position if ever the mayor will issued a dismissal order."
He told Sun.Star Bacolod that the City should give him 30 days allowable time so he will not be charged with abandonment.
Earlier though, Tajanlangit announced that his (Tajanlangit) service is only until Wednesday.
But according to Balo, Tajanlangit should have tendered his resignation a month ago, so the mayor can find a replacement for him.
"I think we will be looking for someone for replacement and we will stick now to the requirement of a doctorate degree in education. But for now, it is clear that Tajanlangit is not resigning," said Balo.
On reports that Tajanlangit allegedly berated Executive Assistant Ramon Lozana, Balo only said the reports have also reached him.
Lozana was supposed to get the documents from Tajanlangit as stated under the board resolution of the Board of Trustees (BOT).
However, Tajanlangit reportedly refused to turn over the documents, which contained the minutes of the meeting of the BCC, and instead berated Lozana.
When the BOT asked another, this time, board secretary Nadine Villarete to get the documents from Tajanlangit, the BCC head allegedly again refused and even called for Villarete's replacement.
But Balo said Villarete was appointed through a board resolution and cannot be replaced without legal basis.
Finally, Balo said City Legal Officer Allan Zamora had to go to see the BCC head last Monday to get the documents.
Zamora, in a separate interview, said Tajanlangit turned over the said documents without any protest.
But he said Tajanlangit snubbed the grievance committee meeting last Friday, which was called to settle the existing conflict between Tajanlangit and Lozana.
For his part, Tajanlangit said he already submitted his explanation report on the Lozana incident to Zamora.
"I will not glorify the complaint from a liar," Tajanlangit said, referring to Lozana.
He countered that he was in a meeting when Lozana came in.
Balo also said he already asked for an apology to the BOT for Tajanlangit's actuations.
"Tajanlangit is trying to point his finger at me. The mayor does not know him when I endorsed his appointment," said Balo.
Tajanlangit said he was the college administrator when the city college got its speech laboratory.
"This is my dream to let the students be equipped with the English language in order for them to qualify for a call center job," he said.
He also said the P390,000 building was donated in his time and that the city college now has two computer rooms with 70 computers when it used to only have two functional computers.
But in the end, he said he will go if Bacolod does not need him anymore.
"I am a strict type of a person. This is my culture and I know I was able to hurt someone because of my strict management system," he said.
