Tay Tung wins 10-Under cagefest
BACOLOD Tay Tung High School 10-Under Team A completed a sweep of all their scheduled games by defeating St. John's Institute, 65-52, last Saturday to pocket the 2006 Basketball Unified Sports Group-Panasonic Cup for the second straight time.
John Paul Nieles top-scored for the multi-titled Tay Tung squad mentored by Gerome Aledron with a game-high 27 points while Most Valuable Player Kib Montalbo chipped in with 22 points for the win.
Other members of the squad who showed form at the Po Hang Gym are Arman Guevarra, John Gill Aposaga, Edmund Sibaya, Kimley Bayquin, Roland Malate, Wayne Yulo, Carlo Young, Gerald Dipol, John Dormindo, France Chua, Jun King Arriola, Marvin Ramirez and Zacharri Enriquez.
Meanwhile, Mansilingan Christian Academy finished third after defeating Trinity Christian School.
The yearly summer competition provides young cagers the opportunity to competed in preparation for the regular school-based competitions like the Negros Occidental Private School Sports Cultural Educational Association meet.
"We want to help provide young players more competition aside from the Nopsscea because we believe players need to be exposed to more competitions in order for them to improve their skills," said BUS Group's Bing Soyao.
For his part, Aledron expressed his thanks to the organizers of the tournament and to the supporters of the team.
The Tay Tung squad also won the 3rd Western Visayas Summer Basketball Tournament held last May 12-14 in Iloilo. (HCV)
