USLS, San Carlos top 7-a-side football tourney

HOSY University of St. La Salle (USLS) and San Carlos City topped their respective divisions Saturday in the 2006 University of St. La Salle Varsity Football Team (UVAFT) 7-a-side football tournament and football festival held at the USLS pitch.

Host USLS mentored by former national men's team coach Freddie Lazarito defeated University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos/5+1 Store, 3-2, to pocket the championship crown in the men's division with La Salle varsity standout Miguel Gonzales being named MVP.

Also seeing action with the victorious La Salle were Jophet Ignalaga, Jason Panhay, Floriano Pasilan and Frederick Jan Serios, among others.

San Carlos took the women's title on their first try after defeating USLS, 2-0, via a penalty shootout for the title with Wilche Ann Velez being named MVP.

The champion teams were awarded with trophies and P4,000 each.

Velez and Gonzales were awarded free round trip tickets by Negros Navigation.
Fifteen teams saw action in the men's division - three from West Negros College, two from UNO-R, three from USLS, two from Sagay City and one each representing Talisay City, La Carlota City, Lupa Boys, San Clara Football Club and Ramos Football Club of Cebu.

Five teams competed in the women's division - San Carlos City, Inter-Mulbachs and University of San Carlos Cebu, Central Philippine University of Iloilo and USLS. (HCV)
