Legaspi: Whew!?
By Carlos Legaspi, Jr.
Questions that matter

BRANDING is one of the methods of identification in the early days of the west. Cattles were branded to identify that these cattle belong to this family or the other. Name-calling is a practice among the real inhabitants of the West. American Indians name their newly-born child after the first thing they see after going out of the teepee. This is the reason why we have "Raging Bull, Black Bear and similar names for the Indians.

In our country, branding and name-calling are two strategies employed by the government to segregate people. However, the sad part of it is that we Filipinos would always wait for our "Big Brother" to start the name-call or branding before we adopt such names.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Recently, I suspect that the vipers in Malacanang have again thrown a new list of branded people for the local CIDG's to follow up. Many prominent opposition were placed on the list. They were suspected to be in support of the alleged notorious opposition of the Arroyo regime. They have tied-up many radicals to have links with the rebel movement. They have tagged many people to be "sleeping with the enemy."

Another development is that many cause-oriented groups are now being re-christened to be legal fronts of the US-named International Terrorist Group, the Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples' Army (CPP-NPA).

This is branding at its height. Many critical rightist personalities were also linked with the Rightist "wanted' oppositions. Those calling for the ouster of GMA and work hard for the dropping of the Charter-change are now being linked with the right-wing opposition. The vipers are really good in name-branding. Soon, I may presume, these people will be charged with sedition or inciting to rebellion or even worst is hoarding criminals.

I really like the administration for putting down or branding people who are critical of it. I am so entertained at the move of the vipers. Left and right wing oppositions are being tagged with beautiful brands. It seems that the vipers and the Queen bee have been so influenced by the early American Indians.

Lately, while another impeachment complaints has been prepared against GMA. As the opposition is now having all the evidence to pin down the queen bee, natural disasters are entering the country. I do not know if GMA and her vipers are fortunate or unfortunate.

Natural calamities are really on their side to cover them up or to divert the attention of the majority. Just as Garci was really out to pin down GMA, the Leyte tragedy went haywire. It left the Filipino nation to pull all strings to help the victims of the tragedy and forgot all about the illegal and immoral act of GMA.

A few days ago, just as the impeachment complaint is being hurled in the Lower House, the volcanoes in the country are threatening to erupt. Media in Imperial Manila are now busy covering the unwanted natural calamity which is about to strike our country. It seems that no amount of attention was given to the impeachment complaint.

Last week, I was saddened by the decision on the case of "Nicole" against some US servicemen. It seems that our court has again favored the evil over the good.

Anyway, any court decision will never erase the immorality and guilt feeling of the people involved in a crime or in an act. It is very unfortunate that our court of justice has been so blinded that an act against the will of a person could be justified because of a payment.

A great turn of events happened when the great and honorable court found that "Nicole" was to be called a "prostitute" so no rape happened for she willingly went with the service men and she was paid. With this statement, I would like to use my comical mind that indeed, there was an immoral act that was done against "nicole". Anyway, I could not elaborate more on the matter for as I had said, this is my comical mind that is moving.

Whew, what a day!(r)
