Chop-chop suspect denies killing 2 others By Nicolas C. Delfin
THE fiancée of the man who was chopped to death in Cauayan town last week is crying for justice for her fallen loved one.
Freilene Cabal, 25, narrated that she was chopping kangkong leaves for their hogs when she heard her aunt crying out that her fiancée Michael Galvez, 27, was hacked to death by their neighbor Patricio Sulan.
"I ran to where he was and saw him lying bathed in his own blood," she said in the dialect.
Cabal embraced Galvez, trying to revive him but it was already too late.
She was looking forward to seeing Galvez, a native of Guimaras island, on that day, June 24. They were to talk about their plan to set their marriage.
Cabal, Galvez and the 41-year-old Sulan lived in the same neighborhood at Sitio Sabang, Barangay Ilijan, Cauayan town.
According to a police account, Sulan killed his own brother and mother years ago. However, no charges were filed against him.
The Cauayan Police arrested Sulan at his house in Sitio Sabang shortly after the incident.
Sulan admitted the heinous crime he committed against Galvez, who suffered 60 stabbed wounds but denied having killed his younger brother and mother.
He said he killed Galvez after he found him mauling his son, 17-year-old Maxsurvan Sulan, earlier that afternoon.
Cabal denied the incident though saying it never happened and dismissed Sulan's statements as mere lies.
She alleged that on June 22, Maxsurvan went to Cabal's house asking for food to eat.
Knowing that Maxsurvan had just taken his merienda, she denied him the food he was asking.
Maxsurvan reportedly said in anger "ay karon patyon taka" (I will kill you).
Galvez who was just nearby confronted Maxsurvan asking how criminals would kill.
Maxsurvan reportedly left after the confrontation.
Shortly after that, the elder Sulan was seen attacking Galvez with a bolo, inflicting 60 stab wounds in the different parts of his body.
Some of the wounds were so deep that it almost detached some parts of Galvez' body.
Mariafe Galgo,34, a witness to the killing, said she heard Sulan shouting, "amo ni magpatay ang kriminal!" (This is how a criminal kills).
In an interview with Radyo Agong, Sulan denied having killed his younger brother Enecito Sulan.
He also denied taking and grilling his brother's heart and liver.
"Nga-a sugbahon ko man ano ko aswang? (Why should I grill it? Am I a human-eating creature?)," Sulan said.
He claimed that Enecito was killed by his CAFGU friend, Lino Canillo, while his mother Basilia Grayan was killed by Mariano Sulan, his older brother.
SPO3 Alvin Cuenca, case investigator, charged Sulan with murder before the office of Prosecutor Hernani Jardeleza Thursday afternoon.
As for Cabal, she hopes that justice be given her fiancee and that the court impose the maximum penalty on Sulan.
