NegOcc cops to augment Asean Summit security
By Nicolas C. Delfin

SOME 300 motor-riding operatives from the Traffic Management Group and the police will provide escort and security to prominent leaders and VIP's who will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) Summit.

Traffic Management Group Director Errol Pan said the event will be held on October to December in Cebu City and to be attended by prominent leaders from the different nations associated with the Asean.

With that number, 97 policemen from Visayas and Mindanao are now conducting a 60-day training course in Negros in preparation for the said summit.

More than 200 others are simultaneously conducting the same training in Baguio and Metro Manila.

"Other riders will just be added before October," Pan said.

The 12-part training course covers safety and offensive training of police tactics to enhance their confidence, dexterity and skill held at the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Occidental grounds and at the Reclamation Area.

Pan said he was happy and lucky to have the Negros Occidental police working together with other policemen from regions 7, 8 and Cagayan de Oro.

Though many looked tired and weary after their rounds that include dexterity test and crawling under 17 lined motorcycles they are determined to pass the course.
