Nat'l open darts championship kicks off today in San Carlos
By Henry C. Villalva

THE San Carlos Darts Club of Negros Occidental celebrates the city's charter day anniversary today with the staging of the three-day San Carlos National Open Darts Championship which reels off today at the Jumbo Bar along Locsin street, San Carlos City.

Organizers told Sun.Star Thursday top darters from various key cities in the Visayas as well as from Mindanao and Luzon are expected to see action in the prestigious open singles category which will enable participants to earn Darts Council of the Philippines ranking points.

Aside from the ranking points, winners will likewise have the opportunity to be included in this year's Darts Council of the Philippines national training pool from where the members of the RP national darts team that will compete in the World Darts Federation's Asia-Pacific Cup slated Sept. 19-24 in Malaysia will be selected.

Organized by the San Carlos Darts Club of Negros Occidental headed by Abet Antonio, the national tournament is supported by Sacatel Broadband, Driveway Bar and San Miguel Beer and is sanctioned by the DCP.

"This is a rare opportunity for promising darters in the province to showcase their skills and be chosen to compete for the country later in prestigious international darts competitions as a member of the national team and if only for this we're thankful to the DCP for giving us the privilege to host the national tournament," Antonio said.

The national darts competition is the second consecutive national sporting event the city will be hosting following its successful hosting earlier this year of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Under-17 Women's Football Championship won by a team from the National Capital Region (NCR). The event was staged through the auspices of the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) headed by fourth district Representative Carlos O. Cojuangco.
