Top AFF official arriving to inspect Tiger Cup venues
By Henry C. Villalva

EVEN at the height of the ongoing football fever brought about by intense action at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, the world's premier football event in Germany, Negrense football fans have more reasons to be happy since the staging here in Bacolod City of the 2006 Tiger Cup, now known as the Southeast Asian Football Championship, slated sometime in November is now becoming more of a reality with the scheduled arrival here on July 22-23 of a top official of the Asean Football Federation (AFF).

Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) deputy general secretary Warren Concepcion told Sun.Star Bacolod Dato Yap Nyim Keong, the AFF executive secretary, will be arriving to check on the condition of the main venue as well as the secondary venue, training venues and hotels where players and officials will be billeted during the tournament which the Philippines will be hosting through the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).

The prestigious Tiger Cup is expected to attract the participation of the football giants of the Southeast Asian region led by reigning Southeast Asian Games champion Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, reigning Tiger Cup titlist Singapore, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunie and host Philippines, among others.

"We are indeed very lucky here in Negros since we were once again chosen to host an international football event and just like in December last year I hope the fans will come to watch the event and enjoy the quality of international competition which comes to our country very rarely," Concepcion said.

The main venue of the Tiger Cup '06 is the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park in Barangay Mansilingan while the second venue is the Paglaum Sports Complex which was renovated last year to conform to international standards in time for the men's football competition of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games (SEAG).
