Violence against women, children tops cases at BCPO Women's Desk

THE Bacolod City Police Office Women and Children's Concern Desk has recorded 323 cases of violence against women and children from January to June this year.

WCCD Chief SPO4 Nemia Cuzon, in an interview, said they were able to record 70 cases in January, 49 in February, March - 37; April - 73; May - 39 and June - 55.

She added that out of these reported cases only 21 were filed in court for proper action.

Cuzon also reported five incidents of rape, four attempted rape, one case of Republic Act 8353 - the New Anti-Rape Law, nine acts of lasciviousness, 39 physical injuries, nine cases of concubinage, seven adultery, four bigamy, seven threat, three oral defamation, 10 unjust vexation, one violation of RA 7787 or the sexual harassment.

She added that from the said months WCCD received 422 different cases and only 32 were properly filed in court.

In cases against children, Cuzon revealed that they received 230 different cases involving children from the same months covered.

The breakdown include 80 for RA 7610, 60 for physical injuries, 19 for rape, two for attempted rape, two for oral defamation, 10 for seduction, nine for threat, eight for acts of lasciviousness, 15 for Presidential Decree 1619 or sniffing of volatile substances, two for violation of RA 7877, or the sexual harassment, one for RA 8353 (new anti-rape law), 11 for RA 9231 (child labor law) and nine for violation of RA 9208 (anti-trafficking law).

Cuzon further said that they received 39 different cases of crimes committed by minors.

These include eight for physical injuries, two for acts of lasciviousness, 22 for theft, four for rape, one threat and two qualified theft.
