'Ma'am mashed my mouth' By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
A FEMALE public elementary school teacher in E.B. Magalona town is in "hot water" for allegedly mashing the mouth of her 10-year-old male student last Tuesday.
The boy (name withheld by Sun.Star Bacolod) was allegedly injured as he sustained minor cuts extending from his right jaw to his mouth. These were allegedly caused by the teacher's pointed fingernails.
Worse, the boy was "traumatized" and already refuses to go to school, fearing that his teacher will repeat the act.
Racquel, mother of the 10-year-old, filed her complaint for physical injury before the EB Magalona Police Office against Rosario Dinaga, a Grade IV-Section 3 adviser at the E.B. Magalona Central Elementary School.
Dinaga is the wife of Raul Dinaga, Education Supervisor in EB Magalona District.
According to the complaint, Dinaga mashed the boy's mouth after the latter failed to memorize his topic for a Science recitation.
"This is too much. I won't react if Mrs. Dinaga would only punish my son in other ways," Mondragon said in an interview with Bombo Radyo-Bacolod.
Mondragon said she did not react the first time her other sons reported the incident. But when her 10-year-old boy reported the incident, she was moved.
She added that she's not against having her son disciplined if he has committed a mistake in class but that this should be done in the proper way.
Mondragon said she will also bring the matter up before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and the Department of Education (DepEd) as she emphasized her determination to teach Dinaga a lesson for what she did to her son.
Sun.Star tried but failed to contact Dinaga as of press time Thursday night.
The school principal, Angeles Poniado-Verdeprado, on the hand, promised to call both Mondragon and Dinaga for a meeting Friday.
"As much as possible, I need to settle this mess before it reaches to a higher level,' the principal said.
She though told Sun.Star that she had already called Dinaga's attention, the latter though admitted the act but can't remember that her fingernails had injured Javier's mouth and jaw.
"I wish this could be settled as soon as possible," Poniado-Verdeprado said
The principal agreed to Mondragon's request for her son to transfer in another section as long as the child won't quit school.
She also assured Javier that what his teacher did to him will not be repeated.
